Rinstrum weighing indicators: software, connection and integration

Software for Rinstrum indicators – from connecting an R320 on a platform scale through to integrating a C500 controller into a filling plant, PLC and ERP. Rinstrum devices sit on countless platform scales, hopper scales and weighbridges as the rugged display between load cells and operator. We deliver the software that reads these displays and brings the weight values to where they are needed: into the ERP, database or production system.

What we do for Rinstrum users

  • Capture weight values from the indicator automatically – instead of retyping from the display
  • Link weighings to order, article or batch and post them to the ERP
  • Log weighing data in databases and make it analysable
  • Bring several weighing stations and indicators together in one application
  • Integrate existing Rinstrum devices into mixed scale fleets

Supported devices and series

Typical Rinstrum devices we connect:

  • R320 / R323: compact indicators for platform and floor scales, weight polling and simple checkweighing
  • R420 / R423: indicators with counting, checkweighing and dosing functions, setpoint outputs, optional alibi memory (DSD)
  • C500 / C520: controllers for filling, dosing and batching processes with recipe management
  • X320 and 5000 series: panel-mount indicators and terminals for installation in control cabinets and plant
  • Digital load cells and transmitters from Rinstrum that connect directly to the PLC via bus

From display to data record

A weighing indicator shows the weight – but it is often still documented by hand: read off, noted down, later copied into a spreadsheet. That costs time and produces transcription errors. Our software takes the weight value directly from the indicator, adds context such as time stamp, operator, order or article, and stores it as a clean data record. A display becomes a data-capture station – without touching the scale or its verification.

Interfaces, connection and integration

Rinstrum indicators come with RS232 as standard and, depending on the model, RS485, Ethernet and USB; Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP are available as options. We read the weight in Rinstrum streaming or polling format, control tare and zeroing from the software, evaluate setpoint outputs and the alibi memory (DSD) and, where required, couple via the PLC using OPC UA. Mixed device landscapes with indicators from several manufacturers we bring together in a single application.

Frequently asked questions

Can you read out a Rinstrum indicator such as the R320 or R420?

Yes. Depending on model and configuration, Rinstrum indicators come with serial interfaces or a network connection. We provide the software that reads the weight values reliably and transfers them into your target system – from a simple protocol capture to fully integrated weighing.

The indicator is attached to an existing scale – does the scale have to be replaced?

No. The indicator is the interface to the software; the weighbridge and load cells remain unchanged. We connect the existing combination – which is usually far more economical than buying new.

We use indicators from various manufacturers – does it still work?

Yes. As an independent developer we integrate mixed device landscapes into one shared application – Rinstrum alongside other brands, on one interface and in one data pool.

Can you connect a Rinstrum R420 to our ERP system?

Yes. The R420 delivers weight, status and tare via the serial or network interface. Our software adds the order, article or batch and posts the weighing directly to your ERP – SAP, Dynamics, Sage, Odoo or a custom solution.

We use the Rinstrum indicator on a legal-for-trade scale – does the verification remain valid?

Yes. We only access the interface in read-only mode and change neither the firmware nor the adjustment. In legal-for-trade applications we take the alibi number from the DSD memory into our data record so that every posting remains traceable.
