What a complete weighing system consists of
In practice, weighing processes rarely fail because of the scale itself, but because of what is missing around it. A continuous system comprises:
- Weighing equipment – weighbridges and truck scales, platform and vessel scales, load cells, checkweighers; specified to match load range, environment and legal-for-trade requirements.
- Weighing terminal as the verified core of the system, with Alibi memory (see our guide on the Alibi memory).
- Peripherals – self-service terminals, traffic light and barrier control, number plate recognition, cameras, ticket and label printers, card readers.
- Control systems – connection to PLCs and plant technology via OPC UA, Profinet or Modbus wherever dosing, loading or filling takes place.
- Software – operation, weighing tickets, analysis, batch and stock management, developed exactly for your workflow.
- Integration with your ERP – so that weighings become delivery notes, postings and invoices instead of stacks of paper.
Weighing terminals: indicators, displays and batching controllers
The weighing terminal – depending on the manufacturer also called weight indicator, weighing indicator or weighing electronics – is the verified core of every weighing system: it reads the load cells, forms the legally valid weight value and makes it available to software, control system and peripherals. We select it to match the task and connect it:
- Weighing terminals for weighbridges – with large remote displays, traffic light and barrier outputs, self-service terminals, number plate cameras, signature pads and position control via ultrasonic sensors.
- Weighing terminals for elevators, silos and grain intake – intake and loading scales, silo weighing and vessel scales; with ATEX approval in dust-laden areas.
- Filling and batching controllers – terminals with coarse and fine feed control for bagging, dosing and recipe scales.
- Checkweigher and belt scale electronics – checkweighers for prepackages, belt scales for continuous material flows, rail scales for rail traffic.

Weight control and weighing data monitoring
A weighing system does not end at the weight value. Only data capture, control and analysis turn it into information you can steer by:
- Real-time weight control – target-actual comparison per article, tolerance limits and automatic pass/fail decisions on the checkweigher.
- Weighing control – every weighing is logged; deviations, repeat weighings and aborted transactions stand out instead of disappearing.
- Weighing data monitoring – a live overview of all weighing stations and sites: throughput, open second weighings, utilisation and faults, with alerting on request.
- Analysis and traceability – quantities per customer, material, batch and shift, master data management, tare administration, collective delivery notes and exports for accounting and audits.
The captured data flows back into your systems – into the ERP, the MES or a dashboard showing your weighings across all sites.
Vendor-independent – we supply what fits your process
We are not tied to any scale manufacturer. That is the decisive difference from a single manufacturer's sales channel: we select components according to your process, not according to a catalogue. If weighing equipment is part of the project, we procure, supply and install it; if a suitable scale is already in place, we integrate it instead of selling you a new one. The sequence is the same whether we build a single weighing station or a complete yard operation:

- Concept and fixed-price offer – component list, interfaces, schedule; one price for the entire system instead of separate items with nobody responsible.
- Supply and installation of weighing equipment and peripherals, scheduled around your ongoing operation.
- Commissioning with your real vehicles, materials and data – including staff training.

- Service and further development – maintenance, remote support and adjustments when your processes change.

Does Digital Trend Systems also supply the scales themselves?
Yes. Where weighing equipment is part of the project, we procure, supply and install it as part of the overall system – selected vendor-independently to suit your process. If a suitable scale is already in place, we integrate it instead of selling you a new one.
What does a complete weighing system cost?
That depends on the weighing equipment, peripherals and depth of integration – a weighing station issuing tickets is a different order of magnitude from a fully automated yard operation with self-service and ERP integration. After a free on-site analysis you receive a fixed-price offer for the entire system.
Do you also handle verification of the installation?
Verification itself is carried out by the responsible officially recognised body – no supplier can take that over. We specify the system correctly in terms of legal metrology, prepare it accordingly and coordinate conformity assessment and initial verification, so that you do not have to deal with it.
Can we keep using existing scales?
In most cases, yes. Whether an existing terminal can be reused depends on its interface and its legal metrology status – we check both during the analysis. Retrofitting is often considerably more economical than buying new and preserves your existing investment.
