Flintec weighing technology: software, connection and integration

Software for Flintec weighing technology – from connecting an FT transmitter on a hopper scale through to integrating digital load cells into a filling plant and MES. Flintec supplies the load cells and evaluation electronics from which scale builders and plant engineers construct their systems; turning the measuring signal into a process value, a data record or a posting takes software. That is exactly what we deliver.

What we do for Flintec users

  • Capture weight values from measuring amplifiers, transmitters and evaluation electronics
  • Equip self-built weighing devices with a fitting software interface
  • Record, calculate and historise measurement data in databases
  • Hand weights over to ERP, production systems or reporting
  • Bring several measuring points of one installation together in a single application

Supported devices and series

Flintec components we regularly work with:

  • FT transmitters FT-10, FT-11, FT-12 and FT-16: weighing transmitters with display, setpoints and fieldbus options for hopper, silo and process scales
  • Analogue load cells of the SB (shear beam), RC3 (compression), PC (platform) and UB (bending beam) series via evaluation electronics or transmitters
  • Digital load cells (e.g. RC3D) with a direct bus connection to the PLC or computer
  • Weighing modules and mounting kits for hopper and silo scales that are monitored as a whole on the software side

From the load cell to usable software

A load cell on its own doesn't yet deliver a weight value an IT system understands: the analogue measuring signal is conditioned and digitised by a measuring amplifier or transmitter – only then does the software world begin. For a project this means: we look at your signal chain – load cell, evaluation electronics, existing interfaces – and define the point where our software takes over. Whether a finished scale, a retrofitted hopper weighing system or a special construction in machine building: the result is an application that displays weights, logs them and hands them over to your systems.

Interfaces, connection and integration

Flintec transmitters provide the weight via RS232/RS485, Modbus RTU and – depending on the version – Profibus DP, Profinet, EtherNet/IP or an analogue output; digital load cells deliver the measured value directly, serially or via bus. We transfer the values into process visualisation, a database, MES or ERP, implement fill level monitoring, consumption measurement and batch records and, where required, combine several measuring points into a single plant overview. Adjustment of the load cells remains the scale builder's responsibility; we do not alter the measuring chain.

Frequently asked questions

Can software read a load cell directly?

An analogue load cell delivers a very small measuring signal that first has to be conditioned by a measuring amplifier, transmitter or indicator. Only this electronics provides a digital weight value that software can process. This is where we come in, connecting the existing or a suitable evaluation electronics to your IT systems.

We're building a weighing device with Flintec components ourselves – do you support that?

Yes. Especially for self-built and special solutions – hopper scales, test rigs, weighings integrated into machines – we develop the software side: capture, calculation, visualisation and hand-over to a database or ERP. The mechanical and electrical design stays with you or your weighing-technology partner.

Do you also supply the weighing equipment itself?

No – we are an independent software service provider. Load cells, electronics and installation come from you or your weighing-technology supplier; we take care of the software and, where needed, work closely with both sides.

We have Flintec load cells under our silos – can you turn them into stock monitoring?

Yes. Via the transmitter or evaluation electronics we read the weight of each silo cyclically, calculate fill level and consumption, raise an alert at minimum stock and deliver the values to planning or ERP – as a dashboard, a report or an automatic purchase requisition.

Do we need a particular Flintec transmitter for the software?

No. What matters is a readable interface – serial, Modbus or fieldbus. We clarify which version your installation has in the initial consultation; if the electronics offer no data interface, we propose a suitable addition.
