Interfaces, connection and integration

Sartorius balances communicate via RS232, USB (as a virtual COM port), Ethernet and in some cases Bluetooth; the protocols used are SBI (Sartorius Balance Interface) and xBPI. We read out weight and stability, control tare and zeroing from the software, check target and tolerance values, transfer weigh-in values with sample ID, operator and timestamp into LIMS, ERP, Excel or a database, and document the alibi number in legal-for-trade applications. The balance's calibration and adjustment records can be carried along as well.

Frequently asked questions

Does this also work with our older Sartorius balances?

In most cases, yes – what matters is the available interface, not the year of manufacture. Even purely RS232 devices can be integrated reliably.

Can readings flow directly into our Excel analysis?

Yes – as a first step that is often the fastest route. When Excel reaches its limits, we expand the analysis into a proper application with a database.

How do you ensure data integrity?

Through automatic transfer without manual intermediate steps, plausibility checks and complete logging – on request, to the requirements of your QA.

Can you connect a Sartorius analytical balance to our LIMS or our Excel analysis?

Yes. Via SBI or xBPI we read out the weigh-in value once the reading is stable and pass it on with sample ID, operator and timestamp to LIMS, Excel or a database – no retyping, no transcription errors. For Excel, a lean capture application is often all that is needed.

We have to document weigh-ins in a GMP-compliant way – does your software support that?

Yes. We record every weighing with operator, timestamp, balance ID and calibration status, prevent subsequent changes and keep an audit trail. With Cubis balances we additionally use the device's own user management functions.
