Back System integration

Connecting a scale to weclapp

Your ERP runs in the cloud, your scale stands at the packing bench – and in between someone retypes weights? It doesn't have to be that way. We connect your scale with weclapp via its REST API: weigh, check, post – in one step.

Typical use cases

  • Shipping: Transfer the package weight during packing automatically to the weclapp shipping order – as the basis for carrier labels and freight billing
  • Weight check: Check the shipment's actual weight against the article weights of the line items before the package leaves the bench
  • Warehouse: Weigh receipts and issues of bulk goods or piece goods and post the quantities directly in weclapp
  • Stocktaking: Record small parts with the counting scale and transfer counted stocks without media breaks
  • Returns: Weigh returns on arrival and spot anomalies even before opening

How the integration works

The complete scale side comes from us: we read your scale – from a simple KERN parcel scale to the OHAUS counting scale –, check every weighing for plausibility and buffer the values locally if the connection to the cloud stutters. Hand-over to weclapp happens via the system's official REST API; which objects are written and when, we agree with you and, where applicable, your weclapp administrator. There is no intervention in weclapp itself – the connection stays stable across every release change.

Cloud ERP meets local hardware

The real challenge with cloud systems is rarely the API – it is the gap between browser and device: a web application cannot read your serial scale directly. Our lean client software closes exactly this gap, runs on a normal Windows PC or mini PC at the packing bench and, on request, brings its own interface: scan the order, weigh, done.

Frequently asked questions

How does the weight get from the scale into weclapp?

weclapp provides a documented REST API – and that is what we use: a small piece of software at your workstation reads the scale, validates the reading and writes it via the API to the right record, such as the shipping order. If the internet connection drops, the weighings are buffered and submitted automatically later.

Does this work even though weclapp runs in the cloud?

Yes – that is exactly what the architecture is designed for: the scale is attached locally to a PC or mini PC, and our software there talks to the weclapp cloud. You need no server installation and no changes to your weclapp tenant.

Which scale do we need for this?

Practically any scale with a data interface is suitable – often even the one you already have. If you buy new, we advise vendor-independently before money is spent.
