Connecting a scale to Odoo

How the integration works

The scale side is entirely ours: reading the device via its interface, checking the values for stability and plausibility, buffering on connection drops. That applies to industrial scales from METTLER TOLEDO as well as compact KERN devices. For hand-over we use Odoo's official interfaces or integrate the weighing function as its own module – coordinated with the Odoo partner or developer team that looks after your system. We deliberately keep both routes version-compatible so an Odoo upgrade doesn't paralyse the scale.

Openness you can actually use

With closed ERP systems the manufacturer dictates what is possible. With Odoo your process decides: should the employee weigh in the familiar Odoo screen? Should a terminal at the scale only scan the order and show the weight? Should a background connection run with no user interface at all? All three are feasible – and because Odoo is open source, there is no licence hurdle preventing a clean technical solution.

Odoo is open source and modular – which opens two routes: either our scale software hands the validated weights over from the outside via the official Odoo interfaces, or the weighing function is integrated as its own module directly into your Odoo interface. Which route fits depends on your hosting and your processes – we implement both.

We run Odoo self-hosted with our own modules – does it still work?

Yes, especially then: custom modules are the normal case in Odoo, and the scale connection slots in as another building block. We coordinate with your Odoo developer or partner so the integration fits your version strategy and customisations.

Can the solution grow later?

Yes – that is one of the reasons for Odoo: if the connection starts at the packing bench, it can later be extended to goods receipt, manufacturing or further sites without starting over.
